"
The night too quickly passes and we are growing old,
so let us fill our glasses and toast the days of gold;

When finds of wondrous treasure set all the South ablaze,
and you and I were faithful mates all through the roaring days!

Those golden days are vanished, and altered is the scene;
The diggings are deserted, The camping-grounds are green;

The flaunting flag of progress is in the West unfurled,
the mighty bush with iron rails is tethered to the world."

Excerpts from "The Roaring Days"

By Henry Lawson 1889.

The Clampers Creed

As I pass through this life, may I always be humble;
may I never take myself serious-"a stuffed shirt";
mays I always appreciate a little of the "rediculous";
may I always be a two-fisted Clamper when the
bottle passes my way and if I imbibe and can't hold
it like a man, then may I always be able to "Pass it
to the next brother"; may I never forget the stout-
hearted men who settled a great Western wilderness
and the heritage we have today; may I never fail to
appreciate a bit of Western lore. ---------ANON
